The Burgess Bird Book

We have started a notebook with our
Burgess Bird book readings.

We ordered these wonderfully colorful notebooks from here.
My son choose green for his Burgess bird book notebook.

After we do a reading, my son draws the bird or birds
in the story.
We look the bird/s up at this site.
We read about them and even listen to their call.
He draws his pictures on card stock.
We then glue them to the notebook.
We also added a little copy work on the other page.

I have my son frame his drawings with color.
This makes the picture look more complete,
not so much blank space.
Your focus is on his drawing.
This has been a delightful addition to our studies.

Ohhhh that looks great. I love what you are doing with that. Would love to see how it goes - as you go along.

I am thinking that I'd like to do a little nature book thing with the girls somewhere along the line, sooner than later. :)

We have that book, too! I bought it this year to go along with Apologia's Flying Creatures study. We haven't started it yet, but it looks very promising!

I just found your site and I already think it is so beautiful! I LOVE that you love being 41!! I am 39 and was starting to feel that apprehension of turning 40 and not accomplishing all I wanted with my children and our homeschool journey. But your little statement took me out of that rut and helped me to re-focus! Thank you!
Also, I went to the site where you look up the birds, but I wanted to know how/where you printed out/purchased the beautiful picture that your son is copying from?
Thanks so much for letting me in your beautiful blog.

Hi Monica- thanks for stopping by. I feel better at this age than I did at 30yrs old. I feel I am wiser, have more patience, and appreciate things a little more now than I did when I was younger.
I am new to this home school journey and just trying to find our way. I am enjoying home schooling more with each passing day. We are finally finding a groove.
About the bird pictures, if you click on the light green word site in this post, it will send you to the right bird site. Next, enter a bird name, for instance robin and several robin names will appear, we choose American robin. Click on, for example, American robin, do not just check the box, you have to click the bird name. Up pops the American robin file, then click on portrait. Hope this makes sense.

I love this! What a wonderful idea and thanks for the web site. I've been trying to make Burgess mean more to the children. Thank you!
